Working Momma Diaries: Fresh48 Photoshoot Ideas

One of the most magical moments of my life has been the first days I spent with my children. It's full of wonder, exhaustion, rawness and beauty all in one. I'm working with Dana from @snowpixiephotography to capture our Newborn shoots and am sharing some tips for other busy mommas who might be trying to plan some of these sessions.

Before I start, if you haven't had a chance to check out my tips on how to select your newborn photographer, head to my IG and read more here.

What to prepare before:

One of the reasons I chose to work with Dana is because she does a full style consultation and questionnaire with each of her clients about what they are looking for and what they are NOT looking for. One of the other things she went over with me when we first booked her was newborn safety and what poses she may not be able to do because of it - I really appreciated the caution cause it took me a long time to grow this little dude!

Further, we discussed clothing options beforehand. She assured me that her shots are mostly lose up and tight so momma does not need to worry about how she looks but rather about capturing the closeness of you and baby. She also recommended I think through some neutral colors (white, black, grey) so that the focus stays on the people in the image. I'm so glad we went with the loose black top and jeans choice for this exact reason!

What to bring the day of:

Knowing what your photographer can provide and what you need to bring (especially if you go to her stunning studio) is crucial. Dana recommends you keep it simple; she has props, diapers and wipes and her own baby-soothing “tricks” at her studio. She really put me at ease after some of the stress of newborn life and made our lifestyle session at my home feel like a friend visiting who was trying to help out...she brought everything she needed, too!

In fact, she made it so easy, all I had to prepare was:

1. Myself & family & the baby

2. A binkie (if you do that)

3. 1-2 bottles

4. Outfits

Yup. That simple. Selecting a photographer that could help us to make life easier was so important to us. She made everything else easy. She confirmed our date, a time that worked best with light and gave us privacy when we needed a break so she could capture the TRUTH and beauty of the moment without overwhelming or interrupting.

XO,

Kaylee
